Its
It is a possessive pronoun which is used to show possession of non-living things or gender neutral things.
- The girl has hurt her leg.
- The boy has hurt his leg.
- My dog has hurt its leg.
- The child has dropped its milk*
*When the gender of a child is not mentioned, it takes pronoun it.
It’s
It is a contraction or short form for It+is or It+has.
Just like
can’t = can+not
we’ve = we+have
I’d = I+had
similarly,
It’s = It+is/ It+has.
- It’s a beautiful day = It is a beautiful day.
- It’s too far to walk = It is too far to walk.
- It’s a house = It is a house.
- It’s four legs= It has four legs.
